Inspired by the true story of Marion Walker, I set about researching and writing a novel to bring to life the mass persecution - mostly women, but some me - that took place in under King James VI of Scotland (James I of England). The more I looked, the harder I found the truth - that thousands were persecuted, tortured, executed - at the hands of extremism and dogma.

This was about more than us. He was one man, and we were his victims, but neither he nor we were the first, the only, or the last.
